Wow…that escalated quickly. Over the past few weeks we have all needed to make some serious adjustments in our everyday lives to accommodate working from home, remote learning for our kids and keeping the kiddos busy all while practicing social distancing. If you are anything like me – the first week was full of unknowns and the first thing you did was google Kids Activities to do at Home. Well, let me save you some time and highlight a few of our favorite things.
#1 GET OUTSIDE & EXERCISE(NOTE: The beaches are now closed here on the NH Seacoast but many hiking trails are still open – these beach images were taken BEFORE the beach was closed)
Whether your are just in your own backyard or choose to hike one of the many trails here on the Seacoast of NH, it is essential for everyone’s mental health to get outside and enjoy nature together. We love to play with bubbles, kick the soccer ball around, draw with sidewalk chalk and hike the local trails. Side Note: I busted my foot a week in and am in a boot – YUCKY – but STILL GETTING OUTSIDE daily for sanity:)
If you are looking for virtual fitness classes to do at home, check out the Exeter Area YMCA .They also have virtual art classes and STEM programs for the kids.
Building projects are a great way to not only keep the kids busy but it helps them to problem solve. Legos are a HUGE hit in our house and this is a great way to keep older children occupied while you jump on that conference call at your day job:). Plus, if you get a big enough kit – they can do it together FOR DAYS ON END! #MOMWIN
Kiwi Crate– A science and learning subscription box for kids.
Let’s be honest, keeping those youngest kiddos occupied is a challenge and expecting them to have the attention span of the older kids will lead to frustration. Finding activities that they can do while just hanging out next to you while you work is key. When we first got the word that daycare would be closed, I made a list of things that my daughter does on a daily basis and we stocked up on those supplies. For example, I bought a big clear tub and filled it with orbeez and some sea creatures (and unicorns OF COURSE)…BOOM, instant sensory table.
Art is a BIG hit in our house. We paint, we color, we draw and we take photos cause well duh…MOM IS A PHOTOGRAPHER. This “Stained Glass Door Project” is something I saw people doing on Facebook and thought it was cool so this was our art project this week. Yes, there was paint all over the floor; yes, I got frustrated with the mess; BUT you know what – THEY HAD A BLAST and it looks pretty cool too.
NOTE: We just used what we already had which was washable paint and painting tape but some people say that 1/2 dish soap and 1/2 acrylic paint work really well.
Coloring – A coloring book and some crayons can be all you need for fun. Don’t have a coloring book around the house? Download over 1000 Free Disney Coloring Pages.
Finally, one of our favorite things is to bake – I mean heck we are in the house all day so NEED TO EAT. Just yesterday my daughter got an easy bake oven and made me some chocolate cookies. No, I will not be skinny by the end of all of this but cookies definitely make me smile (especially when baked by a 5 year old).
Now, let me be real – I am NOT a Pinterest Mom and I SUCK at baking but we are all doing things these days that we may not normally do. Give yourself grace, enjoy as much as you can and just love on those babies!!!
Documenting this time is also going to be really important so that we can look back on some of the fun we all had while social distancing so I encourage you to snap pictures of your kiddos (and fur babies) along the way. I am starting a 30-Day Photo Challenge to Celebrate Life this weekend and would love for you to join me. There is not pressure – it is just a fun way to help find the joy in all of this. Watching my “kid” clients become teenagers is so much fun! I have been photographing this gorgeous girl every year since she was around 6 years old and am so proud of the woman that she is becoming! Teagan will be graduating this evening from Exeter High School and I am so excited to be there as she receives her diploma.
Mom tagged along for her session and just like most moms, the waterworks were flowing! It is hard watching your babies grow up and knowing that they will be heading off to start their adult lives in just a few short months. This is definitely the best reason to invest in senior portraits. I love to capture those final moments of “kids being young”. Before you know it…they are getting married and having their own children.
The sunset at Great Island Common in New Castle was the perfect backdrop for her senior portraits last August. We were even lucky enough to get an amazing sunset!
Congratulations Teagan and the rest of the Exeter High School Class of 2018! Fly High Hawks!!!

Senior week here in NH continues with Dover High School‘s graduation being tonight. As a Dover High School Senior Photographer, I am always very excited to meet new kids and Drew was no exception. His mom contacted me last summer to schedule his senior portraits and I knew from the moment she booked and said he loves to be in front of the camera, we were in for a fun session (with some tears from mom).
Senior year is such a special time to celebrate all of your child’s accomplishments and let’s be honest…you kept them alive for the past 18 years so let’s celebrate you too! Drew plays football, loves to get dressed up with his buddies and go out on the town AND he is an aspiring model. From the very first click…I knew we had gold.
Mom cried the entire session…I mean her baby is graduating high school (I will totally be that mom). Watching your baby become a man is such an amazing feeling and this mama did good. Drew is a true gentleman and a pleasure to work with.
Our evening session at Fort Stark in New Castle was the perfect backdrop for this senior session. We had a little urban feel, some beach and we threw in some football poses. I love highlighting senior’s personalities and Drew even embraced his inner photographer and asked me to try some new stuff…below was his idea and I LOVE IT!
Congratulations Drew and the rest of the Dover High School Class of 2018!

It is SENIOR WEEK at Exeter High School here in New Hampshire and it is bitter sweet for me. I know so many of these kids graduation! Kylie was born just after I graduated from college and I was honored to be by her mother’s side the day she was born. I remember it like it was yesterday and now I am so excited to be there on the day that she graduates high school.
Kylie is such a great kid and local families here in Newfields, NH fight over her when we are looking for a babysitter. She is great with kids and is such a great role model. Her smile and giggle is infectious and it shows in all of her senior portraits.
We had a beautiful night at Great Island Common in New Castle last August. From start to finish, Kylie was beaming about her upcoming senior year and I can’t believe the end is already here. I cried the day that she was born and I am sure I will be a mess on Friday afternoon watching her graduate!
Thank you Kylie for making me an “auntie”. I am so proud of you and cannot wait to see where your journey takes you! Love you to the moon and back. XOXO, Auntie Jennie

When people think of fall in New Hampshire, they think beautiful fall foliage, apple picking and cooler temperatures. As much as I LOVE the fall colors, the beach is still where my heart sings. Fall Beach Sessions are so much fun! There are no crowds, the temperature is lower, the humidity is usually super low (which makes for a great hair day) AND the sunsets are to die for!
As a NH Family Lifestyle Photographer, I love having fun with my clients playing on the beach. We jump waves, we play with trucks in the sand and do lots of twirling in those pretty little girl dresses. Last year, I had the pleasure of photographing the Peters Family and we had a blast! I love incorporating video in family sessions and these two kiddos hammed it up for me!
You can watch their full session here:
