Capturing your birth story does not have to mean capturing the actual act of giving birth. As a Portsmouth NH Newborn Photographer it is important for me to capture the journey of meeting your baby in the way that YOU want. Whether that is a full on birth story where I am at the birth of your child or if you prefer a more private Motherhood Session. The Motherhood Collection is a great way to get those last images as a family of 3 before a new little brother or sister arrives. It includes a Fresh 48 Hospital Session or Welcome Baby Session at your home to capture older siblings meeting their new baby brother/sister AND then two weeks later, I come back for a lifestyle newborn session with the whole family (including the fur babies). All of our Birth and Motherhood Collections include a beautiful custom created heirloom album for you to enjoy each year on your child’s birthday or when the sentiment strikes.
Great Island Common in New Castle shares so many special memories for this family so it was only fitting that we have their maternity session here. Incorporating locations that are important to families is one way to ensure that families have an amazing experience and memories to cherish for years to come. Rhett is an amazing big brother and welcomed his little sister with open arms at Portsmouth Hospital one year ago today! Capturing those first few moments of siblings meeting for the very first time is something that you will never regret investing in. Baby Andrew was one of my very first “Simply Baby” Sessions and he was such a joy to photograph. Andrew’s mama and I went to college together and I it has been so much fun watching her become a mama and to photographer her two little men. This little dude just turned ONE and although I would love to be photographing his one year session, it is safer during #socialdistancing for me share some of his simple studio newborn photography session from last year. Andrew started his session WIDE awake (just as most newborns do) and we captured some super cute expressions and even gave me a few grins. Once he was wrapped up, he passed right out and was a dream to work with.
There is just something about the simplicity of a plain white onesie and a simple white background that I just love. Baby details stand out and you really get to see their features up close and personal. If you have been following me for a while, you know I LOVE baby toes…like near obsession. These simple sessions are a great way to capture the tiniest of feature like toes, finders, lips, hair and eyes. These natural baby-led sessions are some of my favorites and I can’t wait to do more when we are allowed back in the studio.
Let’s be real – the last few weeks of isolation have been rough on everyone. As a birth and newborn photographer, I have struggled not being able to support mamas and photograph these tiny little humans, so I will be sharing some of my favorite sessions over the next few weeks. My heart goes out to all of the new mamas giving birth during this time. I look forward to being back in the studio soon but for now, I wanted to share a few ways that I can help you during this time.
FREE Downloadable Guide taking Fresh 48 Hospital – Since I can’t be in the hospital with you these days photographing your sweet new babies, I wanted to come up with a way to help you document those first few days on your own. I have created a FREE Downloadable Guide taking Fresh 48 Hospital pictures of your own baby during social distancing in New Hampshire. Online Community Support: I have created a Private Facebook Group for Moms where we are currently doing a 30-Day Photo Challenge but it is also where I share a TON of online support for my mamas. All of my birth colleagues have been sharing virtual education and support since this COVID-19 crisis and I have been sharing a TON of it in this group. Check it out: White Wave Photography Moms Group
Kids Activities to Do at Home: For those of you with older kiddos, we are all adapting. New roles of teacher while also running a business has taken a bit of getting used to with 3 kids home now but we are making it work. Are your kids constantly saying that they are bored? Running out of ideas to keep them busy? I have got you covered. Check out this blog post that I did last week: Kids Activities to Do at Home Now, let me be real – I am NOT a Pinterest Mom and I SUCK at baking but we are all doing things these days that we may not normally do. Give yourself grace, enjoy as much as you can and just love on those babies!!!
Phone Consultations & Advice for Photographing your Newborn: I am still doing phone consultations for spring & summer babies, but what if I JUST had a baby and want to get some photos. Well, we can do a virtual session. What I mean by that is that I will get on a call with you and give you tips and tricks to photograph your baby yourself (even if just with your phone). I know it doesn’t replace a professional newborn session but at least your baby’s first few weeks will be documented. If you are interested in learning more about these “virtual newborn sessions” contact me today.
Stay safe, keep smiling and I hope that some of these things help get you through these uncertain times and know that I am thinking of you all and sending virtual hugs. (Seriously though – I cannot wait to HUG EVERYONE again!)
After a cesarean birth, moms are wiped out from all of the medication, major surgery and lets be honest – THEY JUST HAD A BABY! As a birth photographer, I want my mamas to have the best memories of their birth and sometimes that means that I have to come back the next day to do those bonding photos in the hospital. If I am being honest, Fresh 48 Newborn Sessions are my FAVORITE so I just love coming back to capture these beautiful postpartum moments for mama.
Just 48 hours after Logan’s Birth, I headed back to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Nashua to photograph mama loving on her baby and I am so glad that I did because we got GOLD. Mom was getting around much better and enjoying every minute with her little man. Daddy & Grandma were there too and were the best support system for this new mama who had just had major surgery. #ItTakesAVillage
When I walked in the room, I immediately thought he looked bigger. Babies change so quickly! He had already changed and was just 2 days old. Those tiny toes, spiked hair and sweet grins are the most precious moments and I know this mama will treasure them forever.
I first met Ashley and Matt in the beginning of their third trimester and we hit is off right away. Their sense of humor and our personalities clicked right away. Birth Photography at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital is on the rise and I was so happy when they chose me to document the birth of their first child. I knew that it was going to be a great experience and the nurses, midwives and hospital staff were amazing to work with and were SO amazing in helping Ashley have the natural birth that she wanted.
After 5 years of infertility struggles, Ashley and Matt were over the moon to be expecting their first son on Thanksgiving Day. During their maternity photo session there was lots of joking and laugher about what it would be like in the delivery room and I knew that Matt was going to make this birth HYSTERICAL! I wasn’t wrong.
Thanksgiving came and went and no baby. After a few false alarms, I finally got the call from daddy to be, Matt at 4:45am on December 3rd saying they were headed to the hospital. He was the best at keeping me posted as her labor progressed and around 9am I jumped in the car and headed to Dover.
When I arrived, it was quiet and dark and Ashley was breathing quietly through her contractions while her midwife and Matt were reassuring her that she could do it through every contraction. “You got this babe” was whispered through each contraction followed by a funny remark once they had subsided. Matt was one of those dads who was fully involved and knew EXACTLY how to help his wife get through to meeting their son. Humor was very much a part of their birth plan :).
Over the next hour or so we all held space while Ashley moved from the bed, to the birthing ball and back again. I was in awe of her as she labored quietly with so much strength. She whispered to her nurse “I don’t think I can do this anymore” and just then we heard a pop (yes a pop) and her water broke. Her body knew just what to do and she instinctively started pushing.
With just a few quick pushes, Baby Samuel entered the world just in time for us all to watch the Patriots Game (mom is a big fan).
This beautiful morning birth was one of my favorites because I got to capture the emotion of other family members meeting Baby Samuel for the first time. Birth is emotional for all of those involved and I can’t lie…I shed a tear every now and then. Birth is Beatuiful!
One of my favorite parts of birth photography is capturing all of those little details during a baby’s first exam. The weight, the length, those little features…all the details for mom to cherish forever.
And then there were 3!
Thank you to Ashely and Matt for allowing me to capture their beautiful birth story! I am already looking forward to the next one:).
As a family photographer in NH I long for the first signs of spring. The winters are long here in Newfields, NH and I love to get outside and photograph my kids connecting, playing in fields and just enjoying each other in the warm sunshine. Spring is right around the corner and it has me planning for my upcoming spring photography sessions.
Last year was the first year that I photographed the apple blossoms and I fell in love!!! There is such a short window of time that these trees are in bloom but man they are gorgeous. This year, I will be offering very limited sessions in early May at a local apple orchard and will be announcing the dates and location later this month. These sessions are great for maternity, children over the age of 1 and families.

I met Autumn back in March to discuss me photographing the upcoming birth of her first child in July. We instantly clicked but I knew that she had already met with another photographer and “needed to discuss it with her husband” so I was a little unsure as to whether or not she would book with me. When I got the email that she not only wanted to book me, but wanted my full maternity, birth and newborn collection, I was over the moon!!!
Fast forward to June and I finally got to meet the infamous Greg at their Hampton Beach Sunset Maternity Session. We had discussed a number of options for their session and I was so thrilled when they settled on Hampton Beach State Park. The night was PERFECT! We started off in the dunes with the beautiful seagrass and ocean as the backdrop. This couple was simply AMAZING to work with and I squealed with every single image that I looked at in the back of my camera.
The sunset did not disappoint and as a Maternity Photographer, I could not have asked for a better night to capture this gorgeous couple. The cotton candy sky as the background made for a perfect night!
We were scheduled to do Autumn and Greg’s maternity reveal session in early July but Anastasia had other plans…she decided to come 3 weeks early!!! Stay tuned for the Birth Story of Anastasia which I promise will leave you speechless. If you follow me at all on Facebook you know that this mama rocked her birth and her daughter is precious.
