When my cousin Alison and her partner Deb came to me and said that they were going to get married in San Juan, Puerto Rico, I was more than thrilled and was SO excited to travel to celebrate with them. A few months into planning, they asked me to be their matron of honor. I was so honored and from that moment on, I was committed to making all of their dreams come true!
Being a destination wedding photographer is a rewarding experience because you get to travel to amazingly beautiful places and celebrate with people for more than just one day. This trip did not disappoint! We started the festivities off with a sunset rehearsal dinner cruise aboard the catamaran Spread Eagle II. There was music, dancing, good food and a beautiful sunset as we sailed to see where the Caribbean meets the Atlantic Ocean.
The ceremony and reception took place at the San Juan Water Beach Club and there were so many beautiful details. The resort made for a perfect back drop!
Being the matron of honor put a unique spin on being their photographer so I enlisted the help of my best friend to not only be my plus one but my second shooter. She got a crash course in wedding photography and did a wonderful job photographing the ceremony and even a few of the formals that I needed to jump into.
Alison walked down the aisle to “Somewhere over the Rainbow” which was so symbolic and emotional. Our Nana passed away two years ago and they were extremely close. She would tell all of us to look for the rainbows and know that she was shining down on all of us. She didn’t disappoint and we saw more than one rainbow on our trip – a trip that had NO RAIN.
The sun was shining and as 20 of their closest friends and family looked on, these two declared their love for one another. “The flip to my flop, the jelly to my peanut butter, and my very best friend”.
Each guest was handed a sea shell to make a wish on for the happy couple and then throw into the ocean. It was such a great sentiment and a beautiful moment watching their dreams come true.
Aida & Darryl from I Do, Me Too did an amazing job capturing the essence of Alison and Deb and wrote the most beautiful and personal ceremony. I loved all of the details that were included – some that I had never heard before.
The staff at the San Juan Water Beach Club did an amazing job of clearing a gorgeous area of the beach to have the ceremony and for us to capture the most beautiful pictures.
Being able to celebrate with your family is an amazing thing and I am so blessed to have been a part of this beautiful day!
The sun was setting and the beautiful pink sky showed up right on time. These ladies love the beach so we had a blast just hanging out taking pictures in the surf before we were ready to party the night away!
It was all about the details when we entered the reception – from the memory wall, to the candles and the amazing flowers and centerpieces created by Lorraine’s Flowers.
The night continued with an amazing dinner, toasts (including one by me), lots of dancing and a little “We love you Deb & Alison” sung by the whole family. It was a great night with some wonderful people.
The dance floor was full the entire evening with music by Emir Feliciano.
I want to thank Alison and Deb from the bottom of my heart for including me in such a magical day and a trip that I will never forget. I love you both!!!
