I will never forget that day 16 years ago. It was a beautiful blue bird day with temperatures and not a cloud in the sky. It was also my second day of photography school at the Hallmark Institute of Photography. I had gone home to grab some lunch and when I arrived, I was greeted by the workers that were fixing my front porch – they were standing in the living room glued to the TV and as I turned to see what they were watching I saw the plane fly into the first tower (it was a replay of the mornings events but felt like I saw it unfold live). It was the worst image of my life and truly changed my life forever.
Back up 6 months earlier and you could find me on the stairs of the trade center eating my lunch. See, before I was accepted in the Hallmark Institute of Photography, I worked in customer service for a financial company in Boston. This job took me to New York City nearly once a week (my office was across from the trade center) and to California once a month (on American Flight 11 out of Boston).
On this faithful day in September, I realized that someone was watching out for me and I was so happy that I had chosen to follow my dream of becoming a photographer and enrolled in school. This day changed the world forever and I realized what an amazing gift photography was. Not only did these photos capture a moment in time forever but also for me the most amazing gift was to those children and family members of people who were lost that day. Photo albums and printed images of loved ones would be what people clung to in their time of sorrow.
Photography has always been a way to capture sentimental moments and I knew then, that I wanted to help people hold onto their memories for a lifetime. After graduating in 2002 I became a Family Photographer in New Hampshire and am now raising a family of my own while pursuing my lifelong dream of being behind the camera. THEY ARE MY WHY…AND YOU MY WHY! I became a photographer to preserve these memories forever and to put a smile on your face even in the most devastating times.
With everything going on in the world today, I wanted to share this very personal story with you and allow you to get to know me just a little bit more! These moments with my kiddos are so special to me.
