The Experience

Congratulations on your new baby boy or girl!
Nothing tugs more at our heartstrings than the tiny little newborns we photograph. There is nothing more magical than the birth of a child, and capturing and preserving the tender innocence of your brand new baby is a privilege.

There has never been a time in my life when I have been more excited with anticipation than when I was pregnant with my children. What a beautiful time in your life you are living right now! It’s no wonder you want to have your story told in priceless imagery.

Maternity photos are a great way to capture this moment in time where it is just you and your partner or that “last family photo as a family of 3” before your child becomes a big brother or sister.  Maybe you want to include your fur-babies who have been there every step of the way in this journey.

Adding on maternity photos to a newborn session is a great way to document the journey of motherhood.  Let’s start planning your session today.

The Process

NH Maternity Photographer, White Wave Photography, tells the story of Kayla's at home maternity session.

SESSION CONSULTATION

We start with a pre-session consultation where we discuss the vision of your session.  I will help guide you in what to wear and discussing what products will fit your family’s needs best.  Whether you choose to document your maternity session, birth or newbon (OR ALL), I will walk you through the process from start to finish.  We will decide on a location that works best for your family and get a date reserved in my calendar.  I recommend booking your maternity & newborn sessions at least 2-3 months prior to your due date.

your portrait session

I will capture real moments and authentic connections.  I strive to make each session stress-free and something that you and your family will look back on and smile. Sessions take place in the studio, at your home or on location.  Maternity sessions are 45 minutes to an hour while newborn sessions can range from 2-3 hours with lots of room for feedings, changing and cuddles.

Two weeks after your session is when the fun really begins.  I create a custom slideshow for you to watch at the Reveal & Design Session.  After the slideshow, I will help you plan the wall art, album, and fine art that you would like for your home.  This part can be overwhelming which is why I am here to help and that is the main purpose of the Reveal & Design Session.  We will walk around your home and plan your custom art pieces together.  Your family will treasure your portraits for generations.

I dislike everything about having pictures taken. When Austin told me that Jennie was documenting James’ birth, I could think of a few other things I’d rather do. But, I was told not asked. Not only was Jennie incredibly helpful throughout the entire delivery process but she also eased a lot of first time Dad nerves. She did this while documenting every detail imaginable with stunning photos. She is an amazing person with a huge heart. When Austin told me that we were doing it again with Owen. I was a little less reluctant.

Thank you, Jennie, for your beautiful work and giving us these amazing photo documentaries.

YOUR QUESTIONS

When should I book my session?

Ideally, it’s best to book your portrait session during your second trimester.  This will ensure that I will have availability in my calendar for maternity session.  Maternity sessions take place between 32-36 weeks.  If you would like to chat more about a session, you can contact me by clicking here.

Where will the Session Take Place

During the pre-session consultation, I will get to know you and your family.  We’ll talk about the things you like to do together, and what types of locations would best fit your style.  Most of my maternitysessions take place at a beautiful nature, landscape setting with beautiful light or in an urban location.  Just depends on what style fits your family best.  You can also choose to have your session in your home or at the studio here in Exeter, NH.

What if there is bad weather for my outdoor session?

When we book your session, we will put a tentative rain date on the calendar as well.  I check the weather often and we will work together to decide on if the session needs to be rescheduled.  We will reschedule hours before the session time, so you all don’t get ready for nothing.  Remember, I’m the one worrying about all the details.  I wish I could control the weather, but I will do my best to ensure you have beautiful portraits of your family.

CAN WE TAKE FAMILY/SIBLING SHOTS?

Absolutely!  Siblings and immediate family are more then welcome to participate in your maternity session and I encourage it. Including your whole family in your maternity portraits is the perfect way to document the “last family of 3 photo” before the baby arrives.

Are just the digital files avaialable?

My studio specializes in creating wall art and beautiful albums.  I assist you with every step of the portrait process to create beautiful heirloom art to display in your home.  I do understand that we live in a digital world and it’s important for many to be able to share their images online, and be able to print them at a later time.  For this reason, I do offer digital negatives as part of my collections in addition to your heirloom artwork.  However, I want to encourage you to think of digital negatives as a backup of your images.  Remember, a digital file’s life span is an average of 10 years at most, where a print can last around 100 years or more.  What legacy will you choose to leave for your generations?
