My husband and I were married 8 years ago in July and in that time I have come to know and love the Ross Family. I first got to know them the week of my wedding, which in itself was a tough one for them with their beloved Mother and Wife passing away. But, in true Ross fashion, they marched on and partied like rock stars at our wedding reception!
Robert, the family patriarch and I shared a love of photography. I remember one visit to him at his home at Piper Shores in Scarborough, Maine, he showed me an amazing old camera he had and we talked for nearly 30 minutes about photography and the importance of capturing moments in time. He knew the importance of documenting life and I loved when he would show me old photographs.
“Uncle Bob” who turned 100 this past July, was so wonderful with my children and even with his health failing he took the time to pose for a few photos with them. I am so grateful for the last photo that they have with him. The lighting may not be the best and not all the kids are smiling but it is perfect because it captures 4 generations.
On July 16th, family and friends gathered at Piper Shores to celebrate this amazing milestone. Bob had lived his dream of living to 100 years old!!! I was so honored to be a part of his day and give him a big congratulatory squeeze.
Long time friends and family traveled near and far to celebrate with this gentle soul. The night was full of great stories from his children, grandchildren and family friends. It was truly amazing.
For those who know Bob – you know he likes to make speeches and have a good after dinner drink and this night did not disappoint! It was truly a fun night all around.
Sadly, on August 25, 2016, Robert Henry Ross, Jr. passed away at his home with his children by his side. This weekend we remember this amazing man and I look forward to being with family sharing stories.
Uncle Bob – you did it! You made it to 100!!! I will miss your smile. Love and smiles, Jennie
