Owen’s Birth Story Part 2 | Exeter Hospital C-Section Birth

Owen’s Birth Story Part 2 | Exeter Hospital C-Section Birth

Austin & Jimmy were so excited to welcome Baby Owen into the world in early March 2020 via a repeat scheduled c-section. Her 9am appointment got bumped to noon and then to 2pm and finally after what seemed like DAYS, Austin was wheeled into the OR at 3:30pm. Hungry, excited and a little nervous, she had the best staff who was joking about “getting dolled up” for the photographer (ME) and they were excited to see the images of them hard at work.
Everything went amazing until baby Owen took a gulp of fluid and needed a little oxygen. He was immediately brought over to be looked at by the on call pediatrician and taken moments later to the nursery for observation. Everything turned out great and Owen is just fine but my heart ached for this mama who was unable to even see her baby until the next morning.
The nurses and doctors at Exeter Hospital were AMAZING and gave access for me to capture so many “firsts” that she may otherwise have missed – big brother meeting his new best buddy, Owens first cries and everyone in the waiting room who was holding space. (This was all pre-pandemic of course).
After many tries to get out of bed to be wheeled in to meet her baby we knew it was not going to happen that night so with the help of a little technology (FaceTime), Austin was finally able to see baby Owen.
The next day, we captured their reunion and one of his very first feedings. It was magical! Birth is birth no matter what and we can’t always plan for the outcomes. In this case, mom & dad were so grateful for a happy and healthy baby and I was happy I could help to fill in some of the rest.

Exeter Hospital’s United in Wellness Cancer Walk & Trick or Treat Trot Goes Virtual

Last year the rain did not stop this crew and this year COVID could not stop Exeter Hospital’s United in Wellness Cancer Walk & Trick or Treat Trot 5k from happening.  The event may have gone virtual but they have CRUSHED their goals and raised over $50,000 for the Beyond the Rainbow Fund.  Runners from over 10 states participated virtually all last week to raise money for Exeter Hospital’s cancer patients.  Runners will be finishing up their runs later this week and donations are being accepted until Friday, November 6th!

As an honorary member of the Big Black Dog Running Club, I am asking you to help us to finish strong and make a donation today!  Thank you to all who donated and to all who have run for this amazing cause.  Below are some photos of the fun that we had last year!!!!

Fresh 48 Newborn Photography | Summer Special $99

Fresh 48 Newborn Photography | Summer Special $99

Fresh 48 Newborn Photography is one of my favorite things.  The first few days after having a baby are a whirlwind and capturing those early moments can be tough as a mom when you are healing from birth, learning to breastfeed and trying to get some sleep when your baby is sleeping.

These quick 30-45 minute sessions are a great way to capture these memories.  Fresh 48 Sessions are a great option for families who want to capture the first few hours of their newborn’s life but may not want the entire labor or birth documented.  This session is held within the first 24-48 hours of your baby’s life.  I will join you during your hospital stay to document your new baby in a relaxed and natural way for you to remember his first day forever.  I take all of the fuss out of a newborn shoot and you can relax and just enjoy your baby.

How does it work?

  • I will put your due date in my calendar as a placeholder for your session
  • Once baby arrives, we will set up a time in the first 24-48 hours for me to come and do this quick adorable session
  • The first 5 minutes there, I will rearrange the room, pick up and make a plan all while you are just snuggling your baby
  • We use the hospital onesies and blankets so there is no need to worry about what to pack for your baby.  Those details of fingers, toes and their little lips are all your really need
  • I will get some shots of you and your partner with your new bundle.  Don’t worry – having 3 babies myself, I know it is hard to get around so we will go at your own pace
  • Siblings – these are a great way to document siblings or grandparents meeting the new baby!  The reactions are priceless.

NH Newborn Photographer | A Birth Story | Cinco de Mason

I can’t believe it has been a year already since Baby Mason was born!  Last winter, my best friend and I were both pregnant with our third babies together and it was a LONG winter to be pregnant here in New Hampshire.  I was having a girl and she was having a boy (match made in heaven).  Our babies were born 6 WEEKS apart and it has been an amazing year watching them grow together.

In honor of his birthday I thought I would relive his entry into the world.  This was the only one of her pregnancies that I missed the actual birth and I was devastated.  I got the call that she was in labor around 12:30pm when I was on my way to pick up my youngest son.  With little Charlianne only 6 weeks old in the backseat, I raced to the hospital to be by her side.  When I got there things had slowed down a bit so I let her rest and went to the Breastfeeding Support Group at Exeter Hospital to feed Charlianne and get some advice from this great group of ladies.  It was the perfect place to wait because I was literally down the hall from her room and could be there really fast.  She passed out and just chilled out in her stroller for the rest of the afternoon.

I made my way back to the room where Dad, Grammy and two very excited older siblings had joined the party.  It was Cinco De Mayo so we had to party!  What better way then with the birth of a baby?  We played a little Mexican music to try to get little Mason out.  No sooner did the kids leave and things got serious!  I had JUST given birth and it all came back to me so I knew what those contractions were feeling like.   The nurses were great helping her manage the pain until the epidural was administered.  Oh what relief that is :).

I watched the clock and knew I was going to have to leave soon to get my other kids and I was so sad to leave her because I knew it wouldn’t be long.  I was right!  By the time I got home she had delivered a gorgeous 8lb 4oz baby boy.  Since I had missed the deliver, I was determined to spend the whole next day snuggling and photographing that new baby!

As a Newborn Photographer, Mason was a dream to photograph.  He literally slept the whole time and looked liked a little old man.  I can’t wait for his ONE YEAR photo session!
